What an experience!  Ireland at its finest……the history, geology ring forts,  abandoned castles, archaeological  finds, ancient cemeteries, high crosses, bogs and their revelations, traditional Irish music, settlement patterns,  and insight into western Ireland and its peoples through the eyes of a native tour leader and ecologist/guide.  Every day was better than the last.  Every day with guide, Dave Hogan, brought a new experience with a new understanding!  What a great adventure Irish Byways provides!  – Trudy Jacobson, Green Bay, WI

Our pilgrimage to Ireland with Irish Byways was an experience of a lifetime.  The depths of valleys and caves, and the  heights of hills and mountains we visited, were held beautifully in a setting of stone circles, lakes, islands and gardens dripping in meaning, Celtic history, and beauty.  It has had a profound effect on our own personal depths and heights!  The inclusion of the wonderful music accompanying us, carried us along in Beauty.  The awareness that the Divine Feminine, touched in the Celtic spirit and Ireland, is what we have been longing for, while it has been with us all along!  Kate Hennessy and Garry Jones were wonderful guides!   A splendid time, hopefully to be repeated again!  – Kathleen Couble, Oregon

An Irish Byways Tour is one of those magical, mystical events that happens perhaps once in a lifetime.  If this tour is even remotely possible for you, then take it — into the heart of the Irish culture, history and folk arts.”  — Dr Barbara Boyd, Professor, University of Oklahoma

Guide, Dave Hogan, provides the widest range of experiences imaginable in ten days: Mountain climbing, dress-up meals, sea voyage, desolate areas to explore, lush and formal areas to enjoy, frequent coffee breaks, urban college city to experience, bogs, sacred sites, ancient ruins, castles, walls, gardens, independent exploration, group study, pristine accommodations, physically demanding and physically restful activities, one-on-one with pub musicians, time to giggle and time to reflect, time to listen and learn and time to daydream.  -MaryAnn Bawden, Minneapolis, MN

I wanted to thank you for such a magical experience!                                                                                              Your Pilgrimage with Garry Jones and Kate Hennessy was the vehicle that allowed me to visit places I would normally have not been able to drive to.  The whole and soul purpose (for me) of going on the tour was to visit ancient sacred sites.  Places that would have required me to drive on the other side of the road – a rather dangerous idea if I tried to drive there myself. – Shoshana Boar, Vermont

“This is a genuine adventure in antiquity to modern day Ireland.  Every era was interpreted and imagined by the knowledgeable professor, Dave Hogan!  He is the ultimate student of Irish music, revival of Gaelic language, Irish Stone age history, medieval architecture and beyond.  Your appreciation is elevated for all things Irish!  The travel experience is well organized.  Lodging was in restful settings, especially evenings at a working form.  The Irish pubs are unique.  They are great places to listen to Irish music whether you drink Guinness or not.  We enjoyed the Irish food, just think Shepherd Pie.  The schedule allows time to independently explore.  We enjoyed every minute!”  Marilyn & Marshall Burke, Hudson, WI

“My travel to Ireland was made possible by Irish Byways.  The schedule was well planned with amazing opportunities to learn about Ireland’s history and culture from Dave Hogan.   I had hesitated  to use a tour/travel company because I didn’t want to be locked into a fixed schedule.  I played golf one day which was not part of the agenda….fun!  I liked the local lodging and the chance to meet and learn about the people who are so proud of their Irish culture.  My first trip there and I learned to love the people and culture!  Especially enjoyed the special music nights arranged by Irish Byways with musicians like Fiachra O’Regan and The Kane Sisters.  The tour was a relaxing way to explore this new country.  I recommend Irish Byways! Doug Swanson, Minneapolis

My experience with Kate Hennessy and Garry Jones along the Celtic journey was a real spiritual pilgrimage.  I found inspiration and renewal along the way.  Undoubtedly, the centuries of spiritual quest have much to teach us today about patience, forbearance, tolerance, and sensitivity.  Now, I can appreciate deeply the “Irish soul” which is part of my personal background, and the great contributions made to Western culture.Ireland is truly an island of “saints and scholars” — the Ireland of St. Patrick and the Book of Kells.  Thank you for the privilege of participating and for your excellent leadership.  With deepest gratitude,   Dorothy Escamilla, Oklahoma

“I came away with the feel of the land embedded in my bones, the echo of its ancient age in my ear and graced by the unique enchantment its contemporary citizenry bestows so generously on all who come to visit.  Sated as I am, I yearn to return — particularly on the wings of Irish Byways and Dave Hogan.  -Shawn Gilbert, Minneapolis, MN

Sonja and I enjoyed the Ireland trip immensely.  It was all and more than you described and Dave Hogan was like taking a college course on Ireland, but much more fun.  Sonja and I would recommend this tour to any one.  Thank you for taking such good care of us!   -Randy Barrows, Cambridge, MN

“Our trip with Irish Byways was a truly unique, memorable, and enjoyable experience. We were treated to a glimpse of Irish History—human, geological, religious, and musical—that was presented in a grass-roots manner that one would be hard-pressed to find in more traditional tours. Our guides were personable, knowledgeable, informative and accomplished musicians, as well.” — Jim A.

“The enthusiasm for the area by our leaders was contagious.”     ~ Lillian Brice, Appleton, WI

“Traveling with Carolyn Germaine on a tour of Ireland was amazing.  Along the way we stayed in B&Bs where the owners knew Carolyn and made a special effort to make us feel at home.  The group was small enough to allow travelers to become acquainted with one another and create lasting relationships.  The pace of travel was perfect.  Extra time in key cities provided time to meander the streets, peruse shops and linger over Irish foods.  A special treat was the music.  We were delighted and entertained by local Irish musicians and dancers.  Memories of the trip are still enchanting. –– Judy Owen, Bluffton, South Carolina

Dave Hogan’s guided tour, Landscape & Lore, Music & Myth, was like a most enthralling university course. I did not realize just how much information he actually gave us until I started to listen to recordings I made of some of his talks on the bus and in the field – Absolutely incredible! I feel as if we are part of a select few who have had the pleasure of both enjoying and learning from a true Irish Master.”   Dick Rettke, Appleton, WI
